The Local History room is open by appointment only. 30 minute appointments are available Monday-Saturday 12:00-4:00.

Need help researching a Champaign County Family?  We can help. 

General assistance with the resources of the genealogy collection is provided; however, the Library does not trace complete family histories or conduct in-depth research for patrons.  Requests for genealogical assistance may be requested in person, by telephone, mail, fax, or email.  Please email any requests to  There is no charge for information scanned and emailed.  There is a charge for any hard copies sent.

FamilySearch Affiliate Library

The lending of microfilm from the Family History Center in Salt Lake City has been discontinued.  You can find the digital images of select historical records on  Some items may require that you access it at a family history center or affiliate library and will display an error message when you try to access the site.  This service is NOW AVAILABLE when using the library's computers.  For more information on finding digital images, please visit the following site:  Finding Digital Images of Records on

Access Urbana Area Newspapers Online 

Urbana area newspapers from 1822 - 2017 are available online through this site. Please note: some changes have been made to the site.  Search by name, keyword, etc. or browse through the paper from a particular day on the link below...

To access Heritage Quest from home, you must log in from the link located on the Champaign County Library's web page.  You will be prompted for the barcode on your Champaign County Library card.
