Cyanotype Art Exhibit

On Saturday, October 12th, the library hosted an exhibition showcasing artwork created by community members during our Cyanotype Workshop Series.

This event features a collection of pieces produced during a series of workshops led by local artist Suzi Hyden. Artwork was on display and the artists were able to discuss their inspiration behind their pieces and discuss the creative process.

The workshops were designed to encourage older adults to acquire new skills and forge new friendships within the community. The classes aimed to provide a relaxing environment, inspiring participants to enjoy the creative journey. Art is not about achieving perfection; it is about nurturing curiosity and practice. It serves as a workout for the brain, enhancing overall quality of life.

Meet the artist:  Suzi Hyden is a cyanotype artist whose work celebrates the environment by combining elements from nature and repurposed materials. She uses native wildflowers and other objects she finds in nature to create cyanotypes, an alternative photographic process that is also known as sun printing or blueprinting. In addition, she shows her love for nature by repurposing materials for her art. She often uses vintage fabrics, papers, and metal as the substrates and framing for her cyanotypes.

This project was funded by the Ohio Arts Council through a grant from the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, in partnership with E.A. Michelson Philanthropy.
